What is KEMA-KEUR?

As the name KEMA-KEUR (KEMA stands for 'Keuring Elektrische Materialen Arnhem') suggests, it is a quality mark. The quality mark can be found on a residual current circuit breaker, YMVK cable and neoprene cable, to name a few examples. It was originally a Dutch quality mark, but nowadays it is in the hands of the European company DEKRA (DEKRA stands for 'De utscher Kra ftfahrzeug Überwachungs Verein').

The company, which began in the automotive sector, now encompasses a whole range of safety-related services. Whether on the road, at work or at home – DEKRA's skilled experts improve safety in all important areas of life.

What exactly does the KEMA-KEUR entail?

The KEMA-KEUR guarantees that the electrical end product is safe. Manufacturers have their products inspected by DEKRA and are then allowed to use the quality mark, of course only after the product has been approved. Using the quality mark offers the following advantages:

  • Limiting product risks

  • Strong international reputation

  • Worldwide recognition

  • Excluding financial risks

The KEMA-KEUR only relates to the electrical safety of products. The quality mark therefore says nothing about, for example:

  • The emissions or waste that the making of the product causes

  • The energy efficiency of the product

  • The processed raw materials needed to make the product

  • The overall quality of the product

Who carries the KEMA-KEUR?

Carrying the quality mark is not mandatory. However, many electrical manufacturers do carry the quality mark. This can mainly be explained by the fact that manufacturers and companies use the quality mark to indicate safety and reliability. Manufacturers that carry the KEMA-KEUR are continuously monitored by DEKRA. This checks whether the products and the production location meet the safety standards.
Every European country has an agency whose task it is to justify the trust in the quality of products and services. The KEMA-KEUR is accredited for the Netherlands by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA). The RvA is also called the quality mark for quality marks.
