Who is my grid operator?
What are utilities?
Everyone uses utilities. These facilities are connected by the grid operator. Utilities are facilities that benefit all citizens. These include gas, water and electricity (GWL as an abbreviation). The grid operator is only responsible for connecting and managing the utilities. It is therefore not possible to connect an energy contract with the grid operator yourself.
Gas (G):
Gas is needed for heating a home or for hot water and also for cooking such as with a gas stove. Not all homes use gas.
Water (W):
Drinking water is used in the kitchen, bathroom and possibly also in the garden. A drinking water company is responsible for the drinking water in each region.
Electricity (E):
Electricity stands for the current you use in your home. Such as lamps and all devices with a plug. Think of televisions, refrigerators or electric ovens.

Which grid operator do I have?
A grid operator is responsible for the management and transport of energy in the region. The grid operator is an independent utility company that owns the gas pipelines and electricity cables. They ensure that homes and businesses are connected to the grid.

There is one grid operator per region, so you do not have a choice of grid operators within your region. You often use the same grid operator for electricity and gas.

There are different grid operators throughout the country:
-
Enexis Netbeheer
-
Rendo Netbeheer
-
Coteq Netbeheer
-
Stedin
-
Westland Infra Netbeheer
-
Liander
You can contact your network operator with questions. They can provide you with information on these topics:
-
Request, change or remove a connection
-
The smart meter
-
Questions about or problems with your connection
-
Power failures and gas failures
-
Return and your connection
-
Your gas meter and electricity meter
-
Maintenance of cables and pipes
-
Suspicion of energy fraud
If you have any questions about drinking water, connections, your consumption or water meters, please contact the drinking water company in the region where you live.
